MATERA is an ERA-NET action under FP6 instrument designed to provide a simple mechanism for the initiation of transnational projects in the field of materials science and engineering.

The goal of the MATERA Call is to launch transnational, interdisciplinary, innovative projects and to narrow the gap between basic materials research and industrial applications in the following areas:

• Biomaterials for Human Health Improvement
• Materials with Tailored Properties
• High Performance Engineering Materials

The Call is open to industry, universities, institutes and research centres. The project consortia are challenged to demonstrate the whole chain from basic research to application-oriented research.

Funding is via national/regional funding programmes. Therefore applicants must verify their eligibility with their relevantnational/regional programme agency.

MNT-ERA.NET is a large network of European Micro and Nano Technology (MNT) support programmes. It  was launched in 2004 and MNT-ERA.NET is continuing its activities under the 7th EU Framework Programme until 2011.

MNT-ERA.NET comprises 21 European countries and regions, all represented by national and regional ministries or funding agencies.

MNT-ERA.NET is offering annual Transnational Calls for collaborative projects, reflecting the needs and challenges identified by the European R&D community. 

The Transnational Call 2010

January 2010 - Opening of the Call;

Pre-proposal deadline: 12 April 2010;

Full proposal deadline: 5 July 2010;

September-October - 2010 Funding decisions;

First projects are expected to start in November 2010.

In this Transnational Call 2010, particular emphasis will be put on the following applications:

Smart sensor systems forSecurity, Environment and Entertainment(sensor networks, cognitive systems, spintronics, optical systems)

Medical and health devices (networked monitoring of health parameters, bio sensors and actuators, bio interfaces, lab on chip)

Functionalised interfaces and structures(micro/nano layers and surfaces, micro/nano structured materials, nano particles and powders)

Energy for a mobile life (lightweight and energy efficient components, power generation, storage of energy medium, Organic Photovoltaics).

The ENIAC Joint Undertaking (JU) is a Community body established for the implementation of the Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) on nanoelectronics, chartered to contribute to the implementation of the Seventh Framework Programme and the theme Information and Communication Technologies of the Specific Programme Cooperation.

It has been set up for a period up to 31 December 2017.

Financial Rules and Grant Agreement:

Support to projects is implemented through a co-funding scheme. The projects are to be supported both by public funding (the financial contributions from the ENIAC Joint Undertaking and from the ENIAC Member States reimburse part of the eligible costs) as well as by contributions in kind from the project participants. Public funding will be provided at a percentage of the total eligible costs incurred by participants to implement the projects.

A JU financial contribution may be given to any legal entity established in ENIAC Member States and any other EU Member State or FP7 Associated country (including the European Commission's Joint Research Centre).

EUMINAfab Second Call opened March 1st 2010.

EUMINAfab, the first European infrastructure for micro-and nanofabrication and characterization, launched the second call for proposals.
Eight partner sites across Europe offer no fee access to 36 installations with specialist technologies in micro and nano structuring, thin film deposition, replication and characterization, covering a wide range of materials. Several installations even at different partner sites can also be combined to address complex tasks.

The EUMINAfab consortium is coordinated by the Karlsruhe Institute of
Technology (KIT) and consists of the following partners:
